Summer Assistance for Families in Need


If you have summer food, health or clothing needs, Des Moines Public Schools and Polk County have resources for you. From immunizations to free meals, clothing to utility payments, you’ll find a list of places where help can be found. Willard Mural Created Near State Fair


Students of Lindsie Manzer at Willard Elementary created a work of art that may be seen by millions of Iowa State Fair goers. The creation, based on a design by 5th grader Keila Cerda, is now on the east side of Fairground Hardware, across from the State Fairgrounds. Thanks to Great Western Bank, the Davis Brown Law Firm, Jordison Construction and KH Construction for their support of the project. Click on the headline for a larger version of the photo.


Millions to See Willard Student’s Artwork


Many of the million-plus Iowa State Fair goers will notice a new attraction before they even reach the main gate. Students of Willard Elementary teacher Lindsie Manzer (pictured at left) submitted ideas, and a piece by 5th grader Keila Cerda will be painted later this month on the side of the Fair-grounds Hardware, across the street from the State Fairgrounds. High Tech Meets Visitor Sign-In at Willard


At DMPS, we work to ensure that students are receiving a great education in schools that are not only first-rate learning environments, but are also safe and secure. Over the years DMPS has taken many steps to better ensure the safety and well being of our students, staff, parents and visitors. Tutoring Sign Up for Title I Students


Students who attend a Title I school in Des Moines like Willard may be eligible for tutoring services at no cost to their family. In order to be eligible, students must attend one of the 28 Title I schools in Des Moines and meet low income guidelines. To learn more and to register, click on the headline.


Learn About School Choice for 2015-16


Under the federal No Child Left Behind law, this school will be offering school choice for the 2015-16 school year. This is required by NCLB of schools “in need of improvement.” Click the headline for more information and to download a School Choice request form. All forms are due no later than July 1. Late forms will not be accepted.
