I am delighted to take this opportunity to introduce myself as the new Associate Principal of Willard. It is with great enthusiasm that I join Principal Kruse and the Willard team.
I come to Willard with 36 years of experience in Des Moines Public Schools, where I have served as a teacher, principal, elementary director and middle schools director. Throughout my career, I have been deeply committed to fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment where every student can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
I am eager to meet each of you and to begin this journey together. Your insights, experiences, and perspectives are invaluable as we work together to maintain Willard’s reputation for excellence and to innovate for the future.
I have been the principal at Willard Elementary School since July 2010. Prior to coming to Willard, I was a principal in the Carlisle Community School District for five years. Before that I was Dean of Students at Moulton Elementary and a school counselor at Perkins Elementary, both in Des Moines. I started my career as a fourth grade teacher in Johnston.
I received a Masters in Education in School Leadership and a Masters in Education in School Counseling, both from Iowa State. I attended Iowa State University for my undergraduate work where I earned a bachelor of science degree in elementary education. I did my student teaching at Woodlawn Elementary (which is now an early childhood site), and during that experience I knew I wanted to be a part of the Des Moines Public Schools. I love and value the diversity that is so rich in Des Moines, and I love being a part of the Willard family!
